A composite structure combines concrete and steel members at the same levels of its framework: for example a concrete core surrounded by steel beams, steel outrigger beams used with a concrete structure, or steel beams encased in concrete.

A structural frame in which steel beams and concrete are used together (at the same level) to counteract lateral forces.
