A city is an inhabited place with some degree of self-government. Towns and villages are listed as cities, as well as defined unincorporated areas such as townships. In certain cases, conglomerations of self-governing boroughs may be widely recognized as cities and are therefore listed as such. (Examples include London, England and several Australian cities.)
