Facts

  • The 126m by 76m Reichsgericht (federal court house) was designed in an Italian Renaissance style similar to the Reichstag in Berlin. It features two large courtyards, a central cupola, and a large portico at the entrance.
  • Atop the cupola is a torch-bearing figure which symbolizes Truth.
  • Damaged by arson in 1933, it was converted into a group of museums after WWII, chief of which was the Museum der bildenden Kuenste (museum of fine arts).
