- On October 18, 2005, while the bridge was undergoing restortion construction canvas caught fire and a section of the bridge erupted in flames; nobody was seriously injured.
- The bridge connects Manhattan and Queens, passing over the Roosevelt Island (two of the bridge towers are located there).
