- The first of a pair of buildings for August Paulsen, who made his money in the Hercules Mine in northern Idaho.
- Used early formula for high-rise construction: a base, a shaft housing identical floors of offices and an elaborate cornice crowning the composition.
- The McLeod Building in Edmonton was fashioned after this building. The same architect and general contractor were hired to design and build the structure to the north.
