Facts

  • The tallest section was completed in 1973 and is known as Leeds Tower. A 1950's 6-floor section connects Leeds Tower to the original Reid Hospital building.
  • The Leeds Tower was officially dedicated on January 11, 1973.
  • The principal designer was Robert Karlsberger, son of the architectural firm's founder.
  • This building, and all others on site, were sold to Whitewater Living for $3.5 million in Spring 2006. The investor group includes 5 individuals from Richmond.
  • Though plans are preliminary, Whitewater Living intends to create a mixed-use project on the site, without demolishing any existing buildings.
  • The hospital closed on September 10, 2008, with the closure of the emergency room and transfer of all inpatients to the new Reid Hospital, located 1.5 miles to the north.
