Facts
- The tower topping city hall was rebuilt in 1917 after two major fires, and reclad from 1954 to 1956 with Alabama limestone above a Missouri granite base.
- The construction of the city hall hit many delays because of political infighting, an outbreak of the Yellow Fever, and labor disputes; the hall finally opened in 1812.
- Though the building was dedicated in 1811, it remained unfinished, and was completed the following year.
- The exterior of this building has a French Renaissance design, while the interior is designed in the American-Georgian style.
