JW Marriott Indianapolis Downtown
Structure in General
- This is the largest of three major hotels to be constructed or redeveloped in conjunction with the opening of a major expansion of the Indianapolis Convention Center.
- In response to the strong design of the losing InterContinental Hotel proposal, the City of Indianapolis asked to the developers to create a more architecturally-stimulating structure, and to increase the height to at least 30 floors.
- A revised design was released in May 2007, increasing the height to 317 feet/29 floors, with 1000 hotel rooms and 24 residential condominiums.
- A final redesign was released on 19 December 2007, with the hotel's height increasing to 34 floors. Instead of a long slab, the final design is a gentle crescent shape with a light blue glass curtainwall.
