Facts
- The profile of the tower, which rises in stages to an attentuated vertical crown, and its prolific crypto-Gothic ornament, were obviously inspired by Eliel Saarinen's never-built but much-copied Chicago Tribune Building design of 1922.
- The Gulf Building (as it was then known) was the tallest skyscraper in Houston from 1929 until 1963. In 1963 it was surpassed by the ExxonMobil Building (then known as the Humble Building).
