  • Hampton House was the residence of Chicago's former congressman and mayor, Harold Washington.
  • Features a rooftop penthouse apartment on the east side, overlooking Lake Michigan.
  • The building's height was measured from street level to the tip of a small decorative gable on the mechanical penthouse's north parapet.
  • First highrise building on the South Side of Chicago, excluding churches and the tall buildings of the 1893 Columbian Exposition. This building and The Pierre (in Lincoln Park, also built 1918) are the first two highrise apartment buildings outide downtown in Chicago.
  • Built in conjunction with the 11-story Del Prado Apartment Hotel, next door to the west.
