• During the late 1960's this was to have been the start of the ambitious Project 200 waterfront complex, with 36 high-rises. This was the only tower built. The development failed when city planners placed too many restrictions on heights and setbacks. Several proposed towers were as tall as 53 floors. The city, in protecting views of the mountains across the harbour, felt 700-foot-high towers excessive.
• On the top of the building is an air traffic control tower that directs all float plane activity in the harbour below (the tower is not included in the building height).
• The Vancouver Harbour Control Tower, located atop the building, is the highest control tower in the world.
• Nav Canada's nine staff member, dusk-to-dawn, seaplane aerodrome was commissioned in 1978, and handled over 62,000 take-offs and landings in 2006.
• Rooftop signage was added in 1998 for The Vancouver Sun and the Province, major tenants in the tower.
• The large and elaborate wooden sculpture that resided in the plaza for nearly 30 years was dismantled and moved to Princeton, B.C. in 2002.
• BOMA Go Green Certified May 2006.
• From the elevated plaza main entrance to the roof is 403 ft. and 417 ft. to the top of the mechanical penthouse. Including the above ground parking levels, it is 454 ft. to the penthouse and 466 ft. to the top of the air traffic control tower, from the CP tracks.
• At the time of its completion, the tower was the tallest reinforced concrete building in Canada.
