Facts
- Built directly over the main concourse of Union Station, which was renovated in 1991 by Lucien Lagrange & Associates.
- The building replaced the 1925 train station concourse, whose 90-foot skylit hall was inspired by ancient Roman baths. The old waiting room survives across the street.
- The building uses a tube structure - a type of engineering developed by S.O.M. and used in some of the world's tallest buildings. In this case the core is steel and the perimeter is concrete: an unusual arrangement also used in New Orleans' One Shell Square.
