Facts

  • At the time of its completion, this was the tallest building in Kentucky west of Louisville.
  • The 12th-floor restaurant was called Gabe's Atop the Tower, and is credited as Kentucky's first high-rise restaurant.
  • This circular tower has a diameter of 80 feet.
  • Featured both a 12th-floor restaurant and a rooftop swimming pool.
  • After the removal of many interior walls, this operated as the Owensboro Junior College of Business from 1979-1983.
  • In 1983, the building underwent a $100,000 conversion back into a hotel, and operated as a Best Western through autumn of 1988.
  • In the late 1980s, a failed proposal would have converted this into senior living residences.
  • After sitting vacant for decades, new owners began a renovation in late 2013 and intend to reopen the building as a revitalized hotel in 2014.
