Facts
- The tallest capitol-type structure ever built in Chicago. The only others were constructed for the 1893 World's Fair, and all have been demolished.
- The dome had a hollow center with a monumental public space, but its perimeter was subdivided into separate floors.
- Demolished to make way for the new Federal Center. The building occupied an entire city block which is now the site of the post office, the Kluczynski Federal Building, and a large plaza.
