In 1986 Arata Isozaki was awarded the Royal Gold Medal for the promotion of Architecture which was initiated in 1848 by Britain's Queen Victoria and is awarded annually by the Sovereign to an architect (or practice) for work of high quality, or to a person or group whose work has promoted the direct or indirect advancement of architecture.
