Winschoten Winschoten is located in the northern part of the country and is the fifth largest city in the province of Groningen.

In 1825 it got City Rights and from then on it developed into an important city for the eastern part of the province. Nowadays it also attracts a lot of visitors from Germany, due to its proximity to the border.
