About
Penang Island

Pinang Island is in the state of Penang, north-western Malaysia. It lies off the western coast of the Malay Peninsula in the Strait of Malacca. Pinang Island is joined to the mainland by an 8.4 km (5.2 mi) bridge, the longest in South East Asia. The port of George Town, or Penang, on Pinang Island is the state capital. The island has a population (1990 census) of 1.03 million, of whom about half live in the capital.
