About Fort Worth
The city was founded as a fort to protect North Texas from Indians in 1849 at the junction of the Clear and West Forks of the Trinity River. A settlement sprang up around the fort, which has become Fort Worth today. The terrain around the city is slightly rolling with a mix of grassy plains vegetation and heavily wooded valleys. The plains of West Texas begin at the western edge of the city where the elevations begin to increase. The downtown area is alive in both day and night where many of the late 19th and early 20th century buildings have been artfully restored. Interspersed between these are newer skyscrapers, many of which have been designed by renowned architects. Many of the older buildings in downtown have been converted into residential lofts. Sundance Square is the center of the city’s nightlife with restaurants, live theaters, movie theaters, museums, galleries apartments, office, and retail all occupying a mix of historic buildings and new infill construction. Main Street is one of the more unique urban streets, anchored by the 1895 Tarrant County Courthouse on one end and the 1968 Fort Worth Convention Center on the other. Metro Cities
