About Bogotá
Founded by the Spanish conqueror Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, at the bottom of two hills (today known as Monserrate and Guadalupe), in 1538, Bogota was an indigenous establishment known by the name of “Bacatá”, word from which comes the present name. Bogotá’s downtown shelters the most important historic buildings, as is the traditional Bolívar square, where the government buildings are located and in the district of La Candelaria which is the oldest neighborhood in Colombia. Skyscrapers in Bogota are located in many sites. In the International center you find the highest buildings and in the north of the city there is a great number of residential buildings with brick facades. The financial center, located in Chile Avenue, has the most modern and beautiful buildings in the city, although these are not very high. Metro Cities
