Karmiel Karmiel was founded in 1964. The city is located on the border between the Upper and Lower Galilee, situated 35 kilometers east of Tiberius, 22 km west of Akko.
It was first pre-planned as a linear town, along with Arad.
City Status was granted in 1986 and the city has grown rapidly during the 1990's.
Karmiel's folk dance festival has become world famous.
The city serves as a commercial and industrial center for the Galilee.
