About Kiryat Ono
The modern-day city was founded by 38 families in 1939, who aquired land to develope a small new agricultural neighbourhood. In ten years the population had grown to 5000 due to the housing shortage in Tel Aviv and immigration of Jews from Iraq and North Africa forced to flee after the persecution of Jews there. 1962 saw the addition of Kiron, a new high-density residential neighbouhood. City status was given in 1992.The city is planned to triple in size with the developement of new high-density residential suburbs such as Rimon, Havazeleth, and Sha'ar HaKirya. Metro Cities
