About Glasgow
The city is renowned for its culture, with an outstanding nightlife and cultural assets. It is home to some of the finest buildings in Europe, including many beautiful churches and stunning civic buildings, as well as a new breed of stunning modern landmarks. Today, Glasgow’s economy is dominated by the service sector with finance and banking, public administration, education, healthcare, hotels, tourism and other business services being prominent. Glasgow is home to nearly 50% of all 20-storey tower blocks in the UK. During the 1960s and 1970s, when mass housing programmes were in vogue across the country, Glasgow built more and larger estates than every other city beside London - it also had Europe's tallest residential buildings at Red Road and Bluevale Street. Today, some of the estates are rundown and threatened with demolition, while others are benefitting from regeneration projects aimed at prolonging their lives. Alongside this, a new generation of office and apartment towers promises to rise in the city centre following the relaxation of height limits by the City Council. In terms of beauty and vibrancy, Glasgow is one of the UK's finest cities. Metro Cities
