Facts
A ramped concourse through the south side of this building serves as the main entrance to the Ogilvie commuter rail station in Citigroup Center.
The concourse leading to the train station was originally the main lobby, with an even floor in place of the ramp up to the bridge at Canal Street.
In the fall of 1993, a 180x18-foot art deco mural by John Warner Norton was removed from the concourse's vaulted ceiling and put in storage indefinitely.
The Norton mural over the old lobby was commissioned for the original tenant, the Chicago Daily News. It was dominated by diagonal lines, and divided into three sections: Gathering the News, Printing the News, & Transporting the News.
On the east side there is a public courtyard and plaza overlooking the Chicago River, with a concrete floor to match the limestone of the building and the river railing.
The courtyard is aligned with the raised courtyard of the Civic Opera Building directly across the Chicago River.
