Facts
The original Christ The Saviour Cathedral was demolished in 1931 to make way for the grand Palace of Soviets. This project, however, never got higher than a few floors above ground. It became the world's biggest outdoor swimming pool until the reconstruction of Christ The Saviour Cathedral in 1997.
The statue of Lenin on top of the building was designed to be some 100m tall.
The site is currently occupied by the restored Christ The Savior Cathedral.
The project was cancelled when the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union and the country entered a time of hardship never seen before by its people.
