The former Charity Hospital was founded in 1735 and is the second-oldest hospital in the United States.
This hospital is affiliated with two separate medical schools. The Tulane University Health Sciences Center lies to the east and the LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans lies to the west.
Charity Hospital will likely be demolished due to damages from Hurricane Katrina in September 2005.
