Facts
This was Latvia's first skyscraper, and remained the country's tallest building until construction of Hansabanka Central Office.
The building was a gift for the industrial workers and farmers of the Soviet Union.
The building is similar in style to Warsaw's Palace of Culture and Science, which was also a gift from the Soviet Union.
This was the first skyscraper in the Soviet Union to use new technology in ferroconcrete construction.
