This project is being planned where a proposal in the 1980s called for a new home in a 14-story central tower for the  Austin City Hall Central Tower which was never built. |
Originally proposed with 15 floors, the height was increased to 32 when a hotel came to the project. |
The project will feature a 10,000 square foot public plaza on the east side of the building on the corner of Lavaca Street and West 2nd Street. |
There will be a 30 foot wide television screen over the plaza which will show live broadcasts of Austin City Limits. |
The project will also be the new home of the Austin Children's Museum. The new facility will have 30,000 square feet, 10,000 square feet more than its current home. |
The project will include 250 luxury hotel rooms and 196 condominiums. |
The project will include a 2,200 seat theatre for the Austin City Limits studio. Austin City Limits currently has a facility north of downtown on the UT Campus which can hold 320 seats. |
Earvin "Magic" Johnson and former University of Texas football coach, Darrel K. Royal, attended the groundbreaking ceremony. |
