The Terre Haute House was once the city's leading hotel, the social center of the community, and a symbol of the downtown.
Vacant for 30 years, this was an important part of the city's landscape and consciousness. Unfortunately, recent proposals for reuse were not realized and the buildinghas since been demolished.
Though it is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the building was demolished since a developer could not be found to restore it. It was also listed on the "Ten Most Endangered List" by the Indiana Historic Landmarks Foundation.
Demolition began on Saturday, November 5th, 2005 and was completed on Wednesday, December 28, 2005.
