Facts
The Buffalo City Hall is an adaptation of commercial skyscraper design to the housing of government offices. |
Its monumental character is achieved by the dominant tower flanked by paired 14-story wings. Rich detailing derived from both Classical and Art Deco sources add to the monumental effect. |
Wall paintings by William de Leftwich Dodge illustrate scenes from local history, especially the development of commerce, industry, and transportation. |
A block of Court Street, between Niagara Square and South Elmwood Avenue, and Graham Place were vacated to create a larger block for the City Hall project. |
The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. |
