Features and Amenities
One of the city's famous buildings
Facts
This building is connected by skyway to the Lewis Center and Juneau Square North.
US Bank Center is one of the engineering marvels of Fazlur Khan, the famous structural engineer of the John Hancock Center and Sears Tower.
The structural system consists of a framed tube with belt trusses at three levels, similar to a system developed for 140 William Street in Melbourne.
This has been the tallest building in Milwaukee and in Wisconsin since its completion, surpassing Milwaukee City Hall by over 200 feet.
The foundation uses 500 steel H-piles capable of holding 640 tons each; this capacity allowed the structure to circumvent a building code which required a 100-ton limit on each pile.
The exterior is 66% glass, with a total of 5,000 windows.
The exposed trusses on the tower are echoed by long trusses under the suspended lobby floor.
The building's site slopes 15 feet from Michigan Street up to Wisconsin Avenue.
The building was designed with the possibility of connecting future additions at the lobby level.
The lobby is an enormous skylit galleria with two-story windows and liberally planted Indian laurel fig trees.
The building was built for the First Wisconsin National Bank, which moved in from the First National Bank Building a few blocks to the northwest.
The building won a Distinguished Building Award in 1974 from the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
The building's podium spans East Michigan Street, connecting to a large parking structure on the adjacent block to the south.
The Hotel Martin formerly stood on the northwest corner of this site.
