The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is Denver's finest example of French Gothic architecture. |
It is constructed of a steel frame faced with brick and Indiana limestone, with a foundation of Colorado granite. |
Twin spires frame a large rose window; the east spire holds a chime with 15 bells. |
In the interior, the nave vault rises to 90 feet. |
The altar, of Carrera marble, is 30 feet high and features sculptures inspired by works such as DaVinci's Last Supper. The finely detailed stained-glass windows were imported from Munich, Germany. |
The cathedral was elevated to a minor basilica in 1979. |
