Facts
The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is Denver's finest example of French Gothic architecture.
It is constructed of a steel frame faced with brick and Indiana limestone, with a foundation of Colorado granite.
Twin spires frame a large rose window; the east spire holds a chime with 15 bells.
In the interior, the nave vault rises to 90 feet.
The altar, of Carrera marble, is 30 feet high and features sculptures inspired by works such as DaVinci's Last Supper. The finely detailed stained-glass windows were imported from Munich, Germany.
The cathedral was elevated to a minor basilica in 1979.
