Facts
After completion of a new State of Illinois Building across the street, the Thompson Center, this became the state government annex building. In the accordant renovation the courtyard was partly filled in and faced with tinted glass. This renovation lasted from October 1989 to September 1992.
Around 2003 the building was renamed in honor of former Chicago mayor and Illinois Supreme Court justice Michael A. Bilandic.
A Richard Hunt sculpture, "Free Form", is perched on top of the front pediment, in front of the 7th & 8th floors.
