Facts
The design synthesizes several movements of modern architecture, including De Stijl, Prairie School, International Style, Futurism, and High Modernism.
The south wing houses a 6-level parking garage and a 250,000 ft.² computer facility for the local telecommunications carrier.
A two-level riverwalk runs along the east side of the building.
The lobby is landscaped like a Japanese garden with combed pebbles and bamboo groves.
The building is the new home of the Boeing Company, which decided on 10 May 2001 to move to Chicago from Seattle.
A clock tower on the east side is visible up and down the Chicago River. The only clock tower in the United States taller than this is the Metropolitan Life Tower in New York.
The 18-story Butler Brothers Warehouse II stood on this site for seven years, from 1913-1920.
The architects were recognized with an Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects in 1993.
The building previously housed the headquarters of the Morton Salt company.
