Facts
The extremely narrow structure would have occupied only about a quarter of a city block, with far less interior space than many shorter skyscrapers.
Designed as a mast-like tower, supporting 3 overhanging blocks of office and residential floors at the middle and upper levels.
Three television antennas on the roof, joined in a triangle by cross-braces, would have brought the tip height to 2000 feet.
The 433-foot antennas were a key to the project's financial appeal, as they would have filled a pressing need for high-altitude TV transmitters in the Chicago area.
Rumors of the project's revival persisted for a few months after its cancellation, prompted by demolition on the site and reports of other developers interested in taking up the project.
Planned in 1999 as a new world's tallest building, returning the title to Chicago after the Petronas Towers took the record by surpassing the Willis Tower.
