Facts
Excavation for this project's parking garage began on June 27, 2002. |
The parking ramp is located to the east of the tower. Three-level townhomes will be built around the perimeter of the structured parking, facing Grant Street and Portland Avenue. |
Grant Park won two awards from The Business Journal (Twin Cities Business publication) in Spring 2003. The project won for Best Overall New Development, and shares the award for Best New Multi-Family Development. |
Grant Park surpassed the Park Avenue Senior Center in late 2003 and became the tallest building in the Elliot Park neighborhood. |
The facade consists of precast concrete panels that look like brick, meant to mimic many of the older structures in the immediate neighborhood. |
The first townhome residents began moving in during November 2003. |
The first tower residents began moving in during August 2004. |
A new tower, Skyscape, is approved catercorner across the Portland Avenue/10th Street South intersection from the Grant Park site. |
Another new tower, Fifth Avenue Gateway, has been proposed for a surface parking lot a block to the south. |
The tower is very wide east-to-west, and is a dominant feature when looking north along Portland Avenue in Phillips or travelling north on Interstate 35W north of 28th Street. |
This is the only residential building in Minneapolis to feature an external nighttime lighting scheme. |
