Facts
Construction of the tower follows that of an 8-story parking garage on the west half of the site. |
A major reason for putting the building on the north end of the site is that the block to the south is zoned for a very tall building. The plaza would give 400 N. LaSalle space to maintain its views in case that were built. |
Concrete was pumped to the upper floors of the building through shafts within the structure from cement trucks which pulled in to the loading docks, thus alleviating the need to block the Wacker Drive alternate access routes of Kinzie and Illinois Streets during the Revive Wacker Drive project. |
Materials for 400 North LaSalle were staged from the roof of the adjacent parking deck to prevent the need to block streets during the construction period. |
The apartment building is set back from the corner to form a small plaza, similar to the site plan of the Sterling, a building by the same architects at the opposite corner. |
The building has a star-shaped floorplan, with a multi-angled façade. |
