Facts
The lobby contains a 15 by 60-foot long reflecting pool, which separates secure and non-secure areas.
The building is supported and reinforced through a "redundant structural system" engineered by Seattle-based Skilling Ward Magnusson Barkshire to avoid collapse in the event of an explosion. In such an event, an integrated cable system would support the perimeter of each floor.
Design includes a 1 acre landscaped public plaza running the full length of the Seventh Avenue side.
Replaces the United States Courthouse on Fifth Avenue built more than a half century ago and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
This building was recognized with a commendation by the jury of the 2004 Honor Award for Washington Architecture from the American Institute of Architects - Seattle Chapter.
Over-height floors create courtroom atmosphere.
