Facts
At one time this was home to more insurance companies than any other building in the world. |
The 22-story structure was built to accomodate a tower of 20 additional stories on top. |
Constructed in 2 phases sixteen years apart. The north half was completed in 1912, and the south half in 1928. |
The peak of the north skylight is the highest point on the building, three feet higher than the south skylight. |
Before the south half was built, the entire first floor space was occupied by a consolidated railroad ticket office. |
The steel skylights over the light courts were lifted into position by helicopter. |
The recent $80 million renovation upgraded this building from Class C office space to Class A. |
Renovated from 1999 - 2001 by Lucien Lagrange & Associates. The lobby and entrances were redesigned, the two light courts were capped by skylights, and the exterior brick and terra-cotta were cleaned. |
The floorplates are 68,000 ft² each. |
